Mount Olive Lutheran Church

Music Ministry

The Word of God combined with music is a great and glorious gift of God! Voices and instruments encourage the entire worshiping community to join in singing the Gospel message. Please use the tabs below to see the many ways Mount Olive uses the gift of music to proclaim the Gospel message!

Bel Canto Handbell Choir

Rehearsals: Mondays, 6:30 – 8:00 PM

Music reading skills are not necessary, but are helpful. Chancel Choir participates in worship three times each month and at all festival services.

Children’s Choirs

Age: Kindergarten—middle school
Rehearsals: Wednesdays, 5:45 – 6:45 PM
Director: Amy Buerck, Melinda Hixson, Anna Johnson, and Kim Montross

– Chapel Choir (Kindergarten – 2nd grade)

The music chosen emphasizes seasons of the Church year and Biblical stories. Hand chimes and Orff instruments are introduced. Children will begin learning musical rhythms. The children participate in worship each month.

– Shekinah Choir (3rd – 7th grade)

Rehearsal time includes refining handbell skills, music reading skills, and vocal techniques. The choir participates in worship each month. Some ability to read music is helpful, but not required.

Cantors

The Cantors provide musical leadership throughout the service. They are called upon to lead the antiphonal singing of the liturgy.

Solos and Small Groups

Individuals are encouraged to share their God-given musical talents with the church in praise to our Lord and Savior. Solo and small group instrumentalists and vocalists are especially welcome in the summer months to provide special music when other ensembles are on break. Instrumentalists are used during the year to accompany the other groups, enhance the congregational singing of hymns, and as special music in the services. If you are interested in such opportunities, please e-mail Kim Montross (kmontross@mtoliveluth.org) or call the church office (303-755-9123).

Volunteer Needs

Music ministry is looking for volunteers in the following areas:

  • Instrumentalists and Vocalists to participate in musical ensembles to lead the congregation in worship.
  • Cantors to lead congregational singing of liturgy and psalms.
  • Children’s Music program leaders to plan and direct the children choirs. Some musical knowledge is helpful.
  • Children’s Music program assistants to aid directors during rehearsals. No musical knowledge or preparation required!

If you are interested in such opportunities, please e-mail Kim Montross (kmontross@mtoliveluth.org) or call the church office (303-755-9123).
